Shawano County Livestock Committee Scholarship Application
Dairy Farmers of America – Beginning this year, there are two changes in how scholarships will be awarded. First, DFA Cares will award scholarships for three categories of students: pre-college students, undergraduate students and graduate/professional students. Secondly, students will be eligible for only one scholarship in each award category throughout their schooling. For example, if a student is awarded an undergraduate scholarship, they will not be eligible for another scholarship until they attend graduate school. The number and anount of scholarships in each category will be determined annually based on the number of applicants and available funding. Application deadline is January 13th. Larsen Cooperative – will award (30) $500 scholarships to a high school senior who will attend a two or four year college/university/tech. Deadline is April 15. Contact the Coop at 800-924-6677 for information and application. Family needs to be a Larsen Coop patron to qualify.
Shawano County Farm Progress – Available to Shawano County residents enrolled in an Ag-related field at a UW-System 4-year campus. Preference given to upper classmen. Funds provide for a scholarship in excess of $800. More information can be found on the UWEX website under agriculture or contact the UWEX office. Deadline is April 15th.
Shawano County HCE - The Shawano Co. Assn for Home and Community Education is sponsoring a $350 scholarship for a Shawano County resident who has completed 1 semester at a WI University, College or Technical School.
- Must maintain a 2.5 GPA
- Be enrolled as a full time student
- Preference will be given to applicants of Shawano County HCE family members.
Contact the UWEX office for an application – due March 15. Scholarship will be awarded at the HCE Spring Event held in May.
Shawano County Livestock Key Scholarship – All beef, sheep, & pork project members continuing their education at a college or technical school. Can be involved through 4-H, FFA, or recognized breed organizations. Deadline July 1st. Scholarships awarded according to member contributions to club and county 4-H and/or FFA programs, quality or applications, community service, etc. Contact the UWEX office.
4-H Older Youth Group – awards a $200 scholarship to active OYG member, for technical college or UW study. Selection focusing on 4-H involvement, leadership and community involvement. Deadline is May 23rd.
Wisconsin 4-H Foundation Scholarship -The WI 4-H Foundation and generous sponsors provide funding for these educational scholarships to outstanding Wisconsin 4-H youth.
Categories are: Natural Resources/Environmental Education, Family, Home & Health, Horse, Animal Sciences, Leadership, Agriculture, and Community Service.
Applications are available at the UWEX office or on-line at www.uwex.edu/ces/4h/foundation/scholarship.cfm. Applications must be signed by the 4-H Youth Agent and postmarked no later than February 24.
Wisconsin Town’s Association with Rural Mutal Ins. company will award $7,000 in scholarships to high school seniors. Use toward college or vocational college. Winners chosen from essay topic: “How can towns and villages best protect their infrastructure and still provide other needed services such as fire and emergency services in tough economic times?” Deadline May 25. Contact WI Towns Assoc., W7686 County Rd MMM at 715-526-3157 or stop at the UWEX office for an application.
United Cooperative Scholarships – United Cooperative is pleased to offer 20 – $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors pursuing Ag or non-Ag education. Applicants will be judged on leadership skills, scholastic achievement, extra curricular activities, motivation, and academic and personal goals. Student or parent must be a patron of United Cooperative (now including Pulaski Chase Coop and Mid-County Coop). Visit www.unitedcooperative.com for application or call 1-800-924-2991. Deadline is March 1st.
United Veterinary Service Scholarship- Available to 4-H and FFA animal or vet science project members in Waupaca, Shawano, Waushara, Outagamie and Winnebago counties. Two $1,000 scholarships will be paid, half the first year and half the second year of college or technical school. The application will include a short essay describing what lessons of life they learned from their animal projects and can be obtained from the United Vet Clinic office in Clintonville or Bear Creek, as well as the UWEX office, deadline is March 31.
Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction Scholarship- Applicants must be between the ages of 17-19 as of January 1 of the current year. They must also be a current or past exhibitor of beef, sheep or swine at the WI State Fair, and pursuing a post-high school education. Four $1,000, four $750 and six $500 awards offered. Applications are due June 15th. Forms are available at the UWEX-Extension Office, or at the website http://www.wistatefair.com/ – select Fair Competitions then News.
Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association - Scholarships will be available to high school seniors enrolled in a university, technical college or Madison Short Course. Need background in beef or dairy and majoring in an agriculture-related field. Deadline is February 27th. Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Promotion Board will award two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors pursuing a dairy-related or food science degree. Three additional $1,000 scholarships will go to third or fourth year college students. Applicants will be evaluated on involvement, leadershipin Ag activities, scholastic achievement and career objectives. The application is at www.wistatefair.com/fair_info/dairy.html. Deadline is April 2nd.
Young Farmers Association - The Young Farmers Association of Northeast WI Technical College is going to offer one scholarship for $500 to any in state college or university, and one $250 scholarship to any in state tech college or the UW-Madison Farm Short Course. Applicants must be high school seniors who want to continue their education in the agriculture or agriculture-related field. Due March 4th, contact the UWEX office for an application.
